A “horrible” photo of Sophie Cunningham’s leg injury is going viral on social media on Sunday afternoon.
Cunningham, traded from the Phoenix Mercury to the Indiana Fever this offseason, suffered an apparent knee injury in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. She was injured during a collision with Sun forward Bria Hartley. It looked pretty bad.
The veteran WNBA guard, who had yet to score in the game, immediately went down in serious pain. She was helped off of the floor and did not return.
“Injury Update: Sophie Cunningham (right knee) will not return to today’s game at Connecticut,” the Fever announced.
In the wake of Cunningham’s injury, horrible photos of her in pain are going viral on social media. They’re tough to look at.
Most WNBA fans seem to be bracing for some tough news on her injury.
“The injury on Sophie Cunningham looks pretty bad. It looks right her right knee bent backward a little,” one fan suggested.

In the wake of the injury to Sophie Cunningham, WNBA fans are bracing for bad news, with many expecting it to be serious.
“That does not look good for Sophie Cunningham hoping for nothing too serious Ts and Ps,” one fan wrote.
“Prayers up for my fellow Missourian and heck of a basketball player Sophie Cunningham that the injury isn’t serious. She’s been a spark all year and I hate seeing a great player in pain. Missouri is with you Sophie!” one fan added.
“Refs really hate Sophie Cunningham,” another fan wrote.
The Fever were still able to get the win on Sunday, though, topping the Sun in overtime, 99-93.
Cunningham had a three-word reaction.
“KELSEY FREAKIN MITCHELL,” she wrote, paying tribute to her teammate, who led the Fever to a big win.
Cunningham is expected to undergo testing on her injury on Monday, August 18.
