On the afternoon of July 3, the world of sports was shocked when Liverpool star Diogo Jota passed away at the age of 28 in a traffic accident, leaving behind his wife and 3 young children.

According to European press, Diogo Jota unfortunately passed away in a traffic accident in Zamora (Spain). The incident happened on the A52 highway early on the morning of July 3, local time.  

At the time of the incident, the player’s younger brother, Andre, who is also a professional player, was in the car. According to witnesses, the car lost control and went off the road, bursting into flames. The victims in the car unfortunately survived.

Sadly, the striker has only been married to his long-time girlfriend Rute Cardoso for 10 days. The two previously had 3 children.

Diogo Jota was born on December 4, 1996, joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton for a fee of 44.7 million euros. He played 182 matches for the “Red Brigade”, scored 65 goals and created 26 assists. He also won three titles in the Liverpool season: Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.

For the Portuguese national team, he has made 49 appearances and scored 14 goals. Jota also won the UEFA Nations Cup twice with Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2018-2019 and 2024-2025 seasons.
