Joe Cole has advised Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes to leave the club and pursue trophies elsewhere, suggesting his time at United has come to an end. The former Chelsea midfielder expressed his belief that Fernandes, despite being the club’s standout performer, is unfairly criticised and deserves a chance to play for a top side.
“If I’m Bruno Fernandes, I’d absolutely be looking for a move away from Manchester United,” Cole said. “He’s the first butterfly and he’s getting all the arrows from everyone. He must go home at night and wonder why everyone is digging him out when he’s the only one pulling his weight in this team.”
Cole added that Fernandes, who has 95 goals and 81 assists for United, needs to prove himself on a bigger stage. “He needs to go and prove to himself that he can play in a top side because he’s run his race at Manchester United.”
Despite Fernandes’ impressive contributions, including a hat-trick against Real Sociedad, he’s been criticised for his leadership by former captain Roy Keane. Cole feels Fernandes is not getting the respect he deserves, stating, “He should leave that club with everyone; the owners, fans, and manager giving him his flowers because he gets all the stick.”
Fernandes, who helped United win the League Cup and FA Cup, has been part of a team struggling to mount a title challenge, with the club currently sitting mid-table in the Premier League.
