The girl was brought to Cork University Hospital in a serious condition but later passed away 
A child has sadly died after getting into difficulty in water in Co. Tipperary on Friday.
The girl was airlifted by Rescue 117 to Cork University Hospital in a serious condition after getting into difficulty in the water at River Suir, Newcastle, Co Tipperary at around 4:20pm. Gardaí and emergency services were on scene to assist.Tragically, the young girl has since passed away. A file will now be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.
We have learned that the little girl, who was from the area, was rescued from the water by two local men. We have also learned that one of the men was an off duty garda.
The men worked to resuscitate before paramedics and other emergency services arrived at the scene and she was airlifted to Cork University Hospital by the Coast Guard’s Rescue 117 helicopter.
Gardaí say that investigations are ongoing.
