The British royal family is mourning the loss of a young life.
Rosie Roche, the granddaughter of Princess Diana’s uncle and a cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry, died at her home on July 14, according to The Times. She was 20.
An inquest into Roche’s death was held on July 21 at Wiltshire and Swindon coroner’s court where it was heard that she was found at the property by her mother and sister. During the inquest, per the outlet, it was also said Roche had been packing her bags to go away with friends and that a firearm was found nearby.Area coroner Grant Davies, per The Times, said police “have deemed the death as non-suspicious” and that “there was no third-party involvement.” The case has reportedly been adjourned until October 25.
E! News has reached out to local police and the royal family for comment but has not yet heard back.
Roche’s death was announced in a July 19 notice in The Yorkshire Post, which read, “Roche, Rosie Jeanne Burke died on Monday 14th July 2025. Darling daughter of Hugh and Pippa, incredible sister to Archie and Agatha, Granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long.”The announcement noted there would be a private family funeral and that a memorial service would be held at a later date.
Roche was a first-year student at Durham University, where she studied English literature, per The Times. Principal the school’s University College Wendy Powers shared staff and students alike were “extremely saddened” but Roche’s tragic passing.

“Rosie had settled into the university and college beautifully and had lots of friends,” Powers continued. “She was loved for her creativity, energy, her love of books, poetry and travel among many other talents. She will be sorely missed.”
While at Durham, Roche reportedly contributed to an arts and culture publication.

At the time of her death, Wilshire police told The Times, “This relates to the sudden death of a woman in her 20s. There are no suspicious circumstances and our thoughts are with her family.”“We would ask,” the statement continued, “that their privacy is respected at this terrible time.’’
