Adele broke down in tears on Saturday at her latest Las Vegas show as she prepares to end her run of highly-anticipated concerts there.
The singer, 34, admitted she still feels the pressure on stage after postponing her residency for 11 months – just hours before she was due on stage.
She told the crowd: ‘I have been waiting for so long to get to this weekend and I didn’t even realise it.
‘What I haven’t been able to get out of my head since the beginning of the show was that it took so long, and I was like, ‘When am I ever going to say I’ve done my residency?’.
‘And this weekend, if not for the added shows, I would have completed my residency.’
Emotional: Adele broke down in tears on Saturday at her latest Las Vegas show as she prepares to end her run of concerts there
The Someone Like You hitmaker continued: ‘Even though I have got four more weekends left after this, I have been waiting for so long to get to this weekend.
‘When I cancelled the original dates it was terrifying to do. But better late than never, and the shows have been a success.
‘I knew I was making the right decision.’
Despite the popularity of her latest album 30, she appeared to have performed only a handful of songs from that record, instead favoring many of her older classics.
Adele burst into tears last month after seeing a man with a picture of his late wife on his phone in the crowd at one of her concerts.
The Easy On Me hitmaker grew more and more emotional as she walked through the audience at her Las Vegas residency show on January 27.
And after seeing the picture close-up, Adele attempted to continue with her performance of ‘Someone Like You, before struggling to hold back her tears as she dedicated the tear-jerking ballad to the man.
She said: ‘When I walk through the crowd, I wish you could see what I can see. Because I know I talk to a few people every night, but then I just see little stories of people happening.
‘There was a man, he’s just there, holding his phone up. I think that’s his wife on the phone, and I don’t think she’s here, and it just really moved me.
‘I’m so sorry for your loss, and I didn’t realise what you were showing me until I was over here.
‘I see these little pockets of people’s lives as I walk through and it’s so beautiful.’
Tough decision: The singer, 34, admitted she still feels the pressure on stage after postponing her residency for 11 months – just hours before she was due on stage
It comes after she shared just how ‘nervous’ and ‘excited’ she was to finally be performing the shows after postponing them for eleven months.
On the eve of her residency debut — which runs from November 18 through March 25, 2023 — she shared a fun snap that appeared to have been taken at one of her rehearsals for the series.
‘I’m feeling all sorts as I write this,’ she began, admitting that she was feeling ‘highly emotional’ and ‘incredibly nervous,’ but also ‘so excited.’
‘I feel a million miles away from home, I can’t stop thinking about when I was little and saw Tom Jones in Mars Attacks and thought blimey how did he get from Wales to Las Vegas!?’ she continued, referencing Tim Burton’s cult science fiction comedy.
‘I always get scared before shows, and I take it as a good sign because it means I care and means I just want to do a good job. Maybe it’s because I didn’t start when I was supposed to,’ she continued, alluding to her tearful video announcing that the shows had been canceled just 24 hours before the first date.
‘Maybe it’s because it’s opening night, maybe it’s because Hyde Park went so great, maybe its because I love the show I don’t know,’ she added. ‘But it’s safe to say I’ve never been more nervous before a show in my career, but at the same time I wish today was tomorrow! I can’t wait to see you out there x.’
The hitmaker’s fans have patiently waited since January for a redo after her eleventh-hour cancellation.
Adele’s initial video revealing that the show would not proceed led to pandemonium for fans who had already traveled to Vegas for the initial shows just before the last-minute announcement.
Making matters worse was the initial lack of new dates.
Bad timing: Adele’s tearful cancellation video arrived just 24 hours before the shows were original set to begin in January. She initially blamed it on Covid but later admitted she wasn’t satisfied with the stage show
Although she claimed in her tearful video that many of the people on her team had contracted Covid-19, which slowed down preparations at the worst possible time, subsequent reporting indicated that the hitmaker wasn’t happy with the stage show.
Several sources claimed that the British star had issues with the set design, and they singled out an on-stage pool that she was set to sing over during one of the numbers.
‘When she saw the finished design, she refused to take part,’ an insider told The Sun. ‘Adele described the pool as a ”baggy old pond” and refused, point blank, to stand in the middle of it.
‘The intention was to fill it with water on the set as she was lifted up on a crane-type mechanism, creating the illusion she was floating on water.’
‘There was just no soul in it,’ she admitted to Elle in August. ‘The stage setup wasn’t right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment.’
Although she was initially ’embarrassed’ after the failure, she eventually found a way to be ‘proud’ of herself for standing up for the best possible show.
‘The first couple of months was really, really hard,’ she said. ‘I was embarrassed. But it actually made my confidence in myself grow, because it was a very brave thing to do. And I don’t think many people would have done what I did. I’m very proud of myself for standing by my artistic needs.’
Like a kid on Christmas eve: Adele shared an Instagram snap as she rehearsed for Friday’s opening Weekends with Adele show in Las Vegas as she delved into her nerves and excitement on Instagram
The shows were originally set for The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Vegas, but after the postpone, it was rumored that Adele (full name: Adele Adkins) might try to move the show to a larger venue, though one still owned by Caesars.
However, it was revealed to be staying put when the final dates were announced.
Even before her tear-streaked announcement that the shows were temporarily off, Adele fans were furious after presale tickets sold through Ticketmaster sold out within minutes. Resale market options were out of the question for many fans, as the ticket prices were inflated to between $1,000 and $37,000 dollars.
The original tickets sold for as little as little as $85 dollars before the numerous fees were added.
The new residency Weekends with Adele was set to begin in January at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
But Adele announced in a tearful video on January 20, just one day before the first performance, that she was postponing all of the shows.
She claimed in the emotional clip that half her team has Covid and they ‘ran out of time’ for the show to be ready.
Bad timing: Adele’s Las Vegas residency — starting November 18 — comes after she canceled an earlier set of shows that were set to start in late January with just a single day’s notice
The 24-night run, which was estimated to earn her $685,000 per show, a Vegas record.
Avisibly upset Adele said in her strong London accent: ‘I’m so sorry, but my show ain’t ready,’ adding that they ‘ran out of time.’
She went on: ‘We’ve tried absolutely everything we can to put it together in time and for it to be good enough for you, but we’ve been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID. Half my crew and team are [ill] with Covid and still are, and it’s been impossible to finish the show.
‘I’m gutted — I’m sorry it’s so last minute, we’ve been awake for over 30 hours trying to figure it out and we’ve run out of time,’ she continued, as her voice started to break. ‘I’m so upset and I’m really embarrassed and so sorry to everyone that traveled to get [to the show]. I’m really, really sorry.’
Fans were furious, as many had already traveled to Las Vegas, with some having spent as much as $9,000 on tickets.
