The ongoing scandal involving South Korean star Kim Soo Hyun and the late actor Kim Sae Ron has not only sparked global attention, but has now involved Sae Ron’s family, who are seeking justice for their late daughter. On March 13, her mother issued a statement explaining why the family was revealing the truth behind Sae Ron’s past relationship with Soo Hyun. The update came through Gaerosaro Research Institute, the same outlet that first broke the news of their alleged romance.
The statement comes on the heels of Sae Ron’s aunt sharing multiple photographs of the two stars, claiming that Soo Hyun was romantically involved with Sae Ron when she was still a minor, just 15 years old. The family later released a love letter reportedly written by Soo Hyun to Sae Ron during his military service, along with postcards he allegedly sent her from Paris while drunk.
Speaking to the YouTube channel, Sae Ron’s mother explained the family’s reason for coming forward now. “We are only trying to restore our lost daughter’s image,” she said. Sae Ron tragically passed away in February 2025 after years of struggling with harsh public backlash and career cancellation following her DUI incident in 2021.
In a statement (via Koreaboo), her mother added, “The reason I am speaking about a child who has already left me is because I want to restore her honour, which was destroyed in a split second by articles full of lies. I am not trying to gain anything or sow discord. I only hope that her life will be remembered and treasured posthumously as an acknowledged actress. I don’t want her to become someone’s gossip, so please help me restore her name.”

As new allegations continue to surface, his participation in BIGBANG member G-Dragon’s highly anticipated music variety show Good Day has now been cancelled. On March 13, Maeil Kyungjae reported that the Hotel Del Luna actor would not be participating in the filming of Good Day. It’s still unclear whether Soo Hyun will be edited out of the MBC show’s clips after filming his earlier appearance or if he will completely exit the lineup of the show’s “88 liner’s” cast.
