President Donald Trump has a new medical diagnosis.
The Commander-in-Chief, 79, has been diagnosed with a non-life-threatenting condition called chronic venous insufficiency after experiencing “mild swelling in his lower legs,” the president’s physician shared in a memo.
“The President underwent a comprehensive examination, including diagnostic vascular studies,” Dr. Sean Barbabella wrote in the July 17 White House statement. “Bilateral lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasounds were performed and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.”The physician added, “Importantly, there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or arterial disease.”
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) occurs when the veins in one’s legs don’t efficiently pump blood back to the heart due to being damaged, resulting in blood pooling in leg veins, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Barbabella also addressed recent photos of the president’s hands which “have shown minor bruising on the back.”“This is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen,” the doctor’s statement continued. “This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy.”Shortly before the release of Dr. Barbabella’s memo, Karoline Leavitt delivered the same information to reporters and emphasized, “The president remains in excellent health,” per NBC News.
And Trump’s medical physical that was released three months prior echoed that sentiment.“His active lifestyle continues to contribute significantly to his well-being,” the April memo from Dr. Barbabella stated. “President Trump’s days include participation in multiple meetings, public appearances, press availability, and frequent victories in golf events.”The results concluded, “President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”
