Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana, 77, has once again been hospitalized after a recurring health issue forced him to suddenly cancel a show in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday night. According to his manager Michael Vrionis, Santana collapsed backstage shortly before he was scheduled to perform at the Majestic Theatre. The cause was reported as severe dehydration and exhaustion, a problem the musician has faced multiple times in recent years.
Paramedics were immediately called, and Santana was taken to a nearby hospital where he is said to be recovering well under observation. Fans who had gathered for the sold-out show were notified just minutes before the doors were set to open. The concert has been officially postponed, with organizers promising that tickets will be honored once a new date is announced.
This is not the first time the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has had to pause his schedule due to health concerns. In July 2022, Santana famously collapsed on stage during a show in Michigan, also because of heat exhaustion and dehydration. That incident led to a string of rescheduled performances and raised fresh concerns about his grueling tour demands at his age.
In late 2021, Santana underwent an emergency heart procedure, forcing him to cancel an entire run of Las Vegas residency shows. Just earlier this year, in January 2025, he suffered a hand injury while vacationing in Hawaii, which resulted in several postponed dates while he recovered from surgery.
Despite these setbacks, Santana has insisted on continuing to tour, telling fans he feels a spiritual responsibility to share his music and positive energy with the world. His “Oneness Tour,” which began earlier this year, has seen packed venues across the U.S., with more international dates rumored for late 2025.
In a brief statement from his hospital bed, Santana reportedly thanked fans for their prayers and promised to be back on stage soon. “Take care of your health, stay hydrated and keep the faith alive,” he said through his manager.
For now, fans are urged to hold on to their tickets and watch for updates about new dates. Santana’s next scheduled performance is set for Sugar Land, Texas, but it remains unclear if he will be cleared by doctors in time.
Santana’s team has asked for privacy as he recovers and reminded fans that his determination to keep playing remains unshaken — but his health must come first.
