Virginia Giuffre has been laid to rest.

Virginia’s loved ones recently said their goodbyes as she was cremated in a private funeral, PEOPLE has confirmed. The West Australian, the first to report the news, indicated that the service was held at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park in Padbury, Australia.

The exact date of Virginia’s funeral has not been disclosed. She was one of the most outspoken accusers of convicted sex offenders Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, as well as Prince Andrew.

Family and friends gathered at the Australian cemetery one month after Virginia died by suicide at age 41, on April 24.

Virginia’s family did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Sunday, May 25.

Virginia’s family revealed the news of her death in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, stating that “she took her own life after having been a victim of sexual abuse and human trafficking throughout her life.”

“Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and human trafficking. She was a light that inspired so many survivors,” her family continued. “Despite all the adversity she faced, she shone with a powerful light. We will miss her deeply. The light of her life was her children—Christian, Noah, and Emily.”

Shelby Brady, media liaison officer for the Western Australia Police, later confirmed to PEOPLE that emergency services responded to a residence in Neergabby and found a 41-year-old woman unresponsive.

First aid was administered, but the woman was declared dead at the scene. Authorities stated that initial indications suggested the death was not suspicious.

“The world lost a fierce warrior. She wanted all survivors to receive justice. That’s who she was,” said Amanda, adding tearfully: “We lost our sister. Her children lost their mother, and her mother lost a daughter.”

“She was one of the most beautiful souls you could ever meet,” Amanda said of Virginia. “But sometimes I think that burden and weight just become unbearable.”

Amanda added that her husband, Sky Roberts—Virginia’s brother—was with her when she passed.

Virginia’s death came after a tumultuous start to 2025. On March 30, she posted on Instagram that she was near death and hospitalized after a school bus crashed into the car she was traveling in days earlier.

“I’ve suffered kidney failure,” Virginia wrote alongside a photo of herself lying in a hospital bed, her face covered in bruises. “They gave me four days to live and transferred me to a specialist urology hospital.”

Days later, she made allegations of abuse against her husband of 22 years, Robert Giuffre, telling PEOPLE exclusively: “I was able to fight back against Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein, who abused and trafficked me. But I couldn’t escape the domestic violence in my marriage until recently. After my husband’s last physical assault, I can no longer remain silent.” (Robert’s attorney declined to comment on the allegations.)

Sky and Amanda later told PEOPLE that Virginia had been struggling with marital issues for some time and had separated from Robert—the father of her three children aged 19, 16, and 15—around August 2023.

Before her death, Virginia founded Speak Out, Act, Reclaim (SOAR), a nonprofit organization that provides support to survivors of sexual assault.
